The London branch has agreed to adopt a new governance process for 2016 called Chair Rotation.

This process will see members of the Executive present monthly vision statements for consideration along with proposed positive outcomes for the branch and if supported by the majority of the London Branch Executive the new Chair will take the reins each month and call upon others to help realise the proposed vision for the month. Anyone from within the Executive can propose a monthly vision and multiple submissions can be made. However no chair can be elected unless a vision statement has been made and agreed.

The table below lists the proposed schedule of Chairs for 2016 along with their vision statements.

    CHAIR ROTATION

    December/January

    February/March

    April/May

    VISION

    GOALS & OUTCOMES

    Peter Joyce

It’s clear that the risk of terrorism is now a very realistic threat which we all have to take seriously and help to counter where we can. But what can we do to assist those who are trying to help us?

Mandatory Goal 1: Raise Awareness of Counter Terrorism and How We Can Help?

The London Branch wants to make this a central and continuous goal for all Chairs to consider. We will regularly increase awareness and education around Counter Terrorism and what this means to everyone throughout 2016?

Personal Goal 2: Monthly London Calling

It is essential that the London EPS branch now start to communicate to members to create a sense of community. This is my second goal and you will see monthly editions of London Calling now start to hit your desktops and mobile devices soon.

Personal Goal 3: Launch "City Resilience" PWG in Q1 2016

Our cities are expanding and risks are increasing. To help address this I will be personally looking to help with the launch of a new British Standard around City Resilience. This will consider "Why" and "What" and my third goal will be to Chair a new PWG in 2016 focussed on "City Resilience" and especially "How" solutions can be developed to meet the needs of "What" is seen to be important from the development of the new British Standard.

Mandatory Goal 1: Raise Awareness of Counter Terrorism and How We Can Help?

    1. Counter Terrorism & Project Griffin Event January 2016

    2. Cyber Terrorism & Fraud Even February 2016

    3. London Branch Website To Help Share Intelligence & Promote Run, Hide and Tell

    4. Promote January & February events in London Calling and on EPS website

Personal Goal 2: Monthly London Calling

    1. New technology and template to support monthly newsletter production & distribution

    2. Develop and distribute to current and lost London members a December edition

    3. Develop and distribute to current and lost London members a January edition

    4. Develop and distribute to current and lost London members a February edition

Personal Goal 3: Launch "City Resilience" PWG in Q1 2016

    1. Update www.the-eps.com PWG to create new City Resilience awareness page

    2. National Chair email TO ALL NO REPLY to announce request for interest in new PWG

    3. Formation of "City Resilience" Core & FYI teams in January and agree roles & responsibilities

    4. Chair launch meeting 1st Tuesday February 2016

Rotation To Hand Off at 2nd Tue In February Executive Meeting

    Kevin Wheal

Mandatory Goal 1: Raise Awareness of Counter Terrorism and How We Can Help?

Following a meeting in Berkshire with members of NaCTSO and local businesses, I feel we must now join with them to help promote Project Griffin and its "Run Hide and Tell" message.

Within the London membership there is now more opportunity to engage public awareness of these short training films that have been prepared for the support of any future events.

The Security and Counter Terror Expo is again returning to London in April, I am aware that some members of the committee will be speaking at this conference however this is again an opportunity for us to keep the EPS on the map. I am aware that there are some plans a foot to arrange meeting rooms and very much like the Transport Security Conference there is an opportunity to promote the EPS to a wider audience. I will look to support all efforts to push this agenda further forward in February for the London Branch of the EPS.

Personal Goal 1: To establish a rota for the chair for the remainder of the year.

To ensure that we have a variety of staff in the post with a background of skills to add different input each month.

To supply support to the chair to ensure we have the skills that the branch can run in a professional manner.

Working with all members of the committee to introduce new members from a wider selection of backgrounds so that we can encompass more of business and industry.

Personal Goal 2: To diary an events programme for the year that companies my show case/visit their business

An opportunity for businesses to show us what they do well, how they do it and the equipment and skills needed to achieve the end result.

Personal Goal 3: To to compass social/networking diary for the rest of the year.

Working in the capital city we have a treasure of venues and tourist attractions which sometimes we never visit. We should look to visit some of these premises to learn how they address resilience and fit into the overall resilience of our city.

To build a season’s diary with summer trips on the Thames to meet with river operators to speak and learn from incidents like Marconiness river disaster how this has changed safety and response, thereby sharing what London has to offer.

To visit some of the places of historical interest to obtain a better understanding of how London has changed its approach to resilience over the years.

    VISION

As a capital city which has to consider a tier 1 risk of "Terrorism" we now have to adapt to these new threats, with the ability to detect thwart and to respond.

Looking at the way both business and the emergency services respond, to train and prepare and post incident to ensure a rapid return to ordinary life.

I hope that with the support of the executive committee we can move further forward on our branch Mandatory Goal and three of my Personal Goals for February 2016 listed below:

Rotation To Hand Off at 2nd Tue In April Executive Meeting

Mandatory Goal 1: Raise Awareness of Counter Terrorism and How We Can Help?

As you know, our ongoing objective for the year is to raise awareness of the counter terrorism efforts in London.

To that effect, we had a steady presence from the society at the Security & Counter Terror Expo 2016 on the 19th & 20th of this month. A huge ‘thank you’ from both the London Branch and National EPS executive teams for all of those who have helped out or just stopped by at the stand.

Personal Goal 1: Engage the London Branch Executive Committee

It starts with us. I want to be sure that we in the Executive are engaged to delivering quality benefits to you.

Personal Goal 2: Engage the London Branch Members

As outlined already, we need you to tell us your thoughts about the branch and how you want the branch to move forward.

Personal Goal 3: Engagement as an industry

Also as outlined, how can we engage with the stakeholders that we need to? I want to try and get your thoughts on who our industry stakeholders are, the barriers we commonly face, and how we can progress.

    VISION

As London Branch Chair for April and May, I set three further objectives around Engagement. By engaging the right stakeholders effectively at the right point of an event, we can enhance our plans, response and recovery significantly, regardless of what that event may be.

I think that this applies to the EPS as well and that’s why the membership of the London branch is central to the objectives; if you tell us what engages you, we can look to enhance our offering and ensure that you get the membership benefits you want, whether its events, learning opportunities, etc.
