The group undertakes regular review of all aspects of the topic. In addition to debate at meetings, the group is involved in:

Drafting of, or consultation on national plans and guidance.

Review of training for responders and participation in exercise planning.

Review of guidance, procedures and processes for the treatment of hazardous waste.
TERMS OF REFERENCE
1. To represent the Emergency Planning Society (EPS) on oil pollution emergencies. This includes chemical pollution emergencies affecting the UK marine environment and coastline. Pollution affecting inland waterways is also considered.
2. To report key activities of the Group to the main body of the EPS through the Director of Business Services.
3. To act as the profession's main liaison body to facilitate the ongoing development and continuous improvement of maritime pollution response procedures and associated guidance.

The contamination threat to our coast from shipping accidents is significant. Being prepared for such disasters is the principal concern of the Oil Pollution Professional Working Group. In addition to oil pollution, the problems of chemical and inert pollution of the sea and shoreline, and the pollution of inland waterways are also considered.
The PWG has submitted proposals to the CCS with regard to an update to the Emergency Response & Recovery Guidance in relation to Major Maritime Emergencies. The document can be found in the Document library.
