TERMS OF REFERENCE
The explosion in urbanisation and the emergence of mega cities has resulted in huge populations concentrated in small areas.
This trend is expected to increase further in the future and as our cities grow the risks to the wellbeing of people also increase.
The discipline of resilience has evolved significantly over the last 15 years since the focus of business continuity leading upto Y2K.
However, the abundance of new frameworks and standards has led to a confusion around a key question which is "What is a truly effective resilience city?" which actually "does the right thing" for its residence and is not simply "doing the thing right" without any tangible result.
We exist to challenge the current thinking and to seek out best practice to share with city leaders to help influence positive change, building foundations by employing an agreed framework for "truly effective resilient cities".
Our efforts will result in alignment to existing or through the creation of new formal standards, influence of government departments to support policy and legislation, to raise awareness of best practice and to collaborate with people and communities within cities to move the resilience agenda forward through political support, people power and innovations in integrated technology.
