DA NANG (Bernama) – The ‘100 resilient cities’ programme pioneered by the US Rockefeller Foundation was launched in Central Vietnam’s Da Nang city on Friday.

The programme aims to help cities around the world to prepare their communities to cope with disasters in the 21st century, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

Participants attending the programme’s workshop studied experience of the US’ Institute for Social and Environmental Transition in climate resilience in Asian cities.

Experts proposed solutions for Vietnam and Da Nang in particular to deal with challenges in environment and climate change, urban planning, and economic development.

Da Nang’s People’s Committee vice chairman Phung Tan Viet highlighted that the programme provides the city opportunity to gain lots of new knowledge and experience in coping and dealing with disasters and their consequences.

Da Nang was chosen as one of 33 cities for the programme’s first phase of implementation in late 2013.
