    Job Summary

     

    The Emergency Planning Society operates two companies, The Emergency Planning Society (registered number 63617416), and EPS Training and Events Ltd (registered number 7101042, VAT number 982 7494 650).

     

    The role of the Membership and Development Director is to develop and implement strategies to attract and retain members by diverse and creative growth methods, and to provide leadership on all aspects of professional development for the various grades of membership, including promoting the upgrade pathway.

     

    The Membership and Development Director will partner with the directors in all governance matters, strategic decision-making and business operations to achieve the Board’s strategic objectives and priorities, and in accordance with all legal and financial compliance regulations that apply to companies registered in England and Wales.

     

    The role of Membership and Development Director is a voluntary and unpaid position, although reasonable travelling expenses and accommodation expenses will be paid, to ensure the duties of the role can be accomplished.

     

    Responsibilities

     

    Membership and Development

    • Maintain and develop a strategy to recruit and retain members from diverse and relevant backgrounds;

    • Define and review the strategy for membership grades, entry requirements and progression;

    • Produce and develop documentation and guidance material for members and prospective members;

    • Work with the Education Director to support the continuous assessment and development of the Core Competences Framework and its application to members’ development;

    • Define, develop and oversee improvements to member services and benefits, working in collaboration with the Marketing Director to produce innovative and informative products;

    • Determine and oversee performance standards for the timely processing of applications for membership and upgrades;

    • Analyse and present accurate reports relating to the Membership and Development portfolio to the Board of Directors in a timely manner;

    • Oversee and support the work of the Membership and Development Committee;

    • Attend monthly meetings of the Board of Directors, either in person or via video-conferencing or teleconferencing, and present a summary of the Society’s membership status;

    • Attend the Society’s Annual General Meeting and any Extraordinary General Meetings to present reports on membership and development issues;

    • Explore and develop best practice methods for growth in membership numbers, through examining best-in-class systems used by other professional bodies;

    • Contribute management data to support the Strategic Risk Register.

     

    Head Office

    • Support the Office Manager in all matters relating to membership and development issues, including processing membership applications, renewals and upgrade processes;

     

    Accountability

     

    The Membership and Development Director is accountable to members of the Society, through the Board of Directors, and in accordance with the Articles of Association.

     

    The Membership and Development Director reports to the Chair of the Society.
